Its natural range stretches from Scandinavia to Siberia. However, the species occasionally appears in Pakistan as a rare winter visitor. Its reported arrival in Sindh has attracted attention from wildlife enthusiasts. According to the report, the eagle may have been displaced by harsh weather or regional tensions. After reaching Sindh, local hunters captured the bird. They reportedly intended to use it for hunting. The bird suffered serious mistreatment after its capture. Its eyes were reportedly stitched with a needle to prevent it from seeing. Its feathers were also cut to stop it from flying away. The bird was later rescued by Haroon and his team in Sukkur in November 2025. The rescue helped protect the rare visitor from further harm. Reports suggest only 12 to 15 confirmed records emerged during the 20th century. Some accounts indicate the actual number could be even lower.
