Known as Fordingbridge Nature Reserve, the new green space is located in Green Lane. The reserve will open its doors to the public on Saturday, October 10, from 10am to 1pm, for a Discovery and Consultation Day. Organised by Fordingbridge Greener Living in association with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, the event is an opportunity for residents to explore the site and learn about plans for access and habitat restoration. The day will include discussions on ecology and habitat improvements, proposed access routes and pathway plans, and ideas for community use, wellbeing, and learning. Attendees will also have the chance to meet volunteers who have been involved in the initial management of the woodland over the past year. The volunteers will lead small groups on a 20-minute walk through the woodland. Those interested in getting involved in the reserve's future management can learn about opportunities at the event. This feedback will help guide the next stage of planning and funding. It is important to note that the pathway is not yet fully accessible, with uneven ground and obstacles that will need to be stepped over. Sturdy footwear is advised, and due to the nature reserve status, dogs are not permitted.
