LAHORE - The Punjab government has taken another step towards making government hospitals infection-free by introducing specialized vehicles for the safe and hygienic transportation of infectious medical waste. The Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education has purchased seven specially designed refrigerated vehicles for government teaching hospitals, says a press release issued here on Tuesday. The vehicles will be used exclusively to transport infectious and hazardous medical waste generated at hospitals to incinerators and microwave shredding facilities. The interiors of the vehicles are made of specialized, easily washable materials that can be thoroughly disinfected after every discharge, ensuring hygienic handling of medical waste and minimizing the risk of contamination.
