Almost 2,000 homes and businesses in east Donegal were left without power this evening. A series of outages were reported between Lifford and Newtowncunninhgham with an ESB transformer reported to have been on fire in the Binion area of St Johnston. A total of 1,978 ESB customers were without electricity. Power has been restored to nearly 400, but the remainder are still in the dark. A total of 1,017 customers were affected in the Newtowncunningham, Carrigans and St Johnston areas with the others connected to the Rossgeir line. The ESB has apologised for the loss of supply and say that their repair crews are working to repair the issue as quickly as possible. Customers have been advised that power could be out until around 10pm.
