Staff photo by Caden Senn Highland Lakes football teams return to the field Friday, Sept. 11, for Week 3, with Burnet and Llano hosting games while Marble Falls and Faith Academy hit the road. Staff photo by Caden Senn LAST WEEK: Marble Falls 39, Little River Academy 36 Marble Falls heads into Week 3 with its first win of the season after a dramatic 39-36 victory over Little River Academy on Friday, Sept. 4. The Mustangs carried a 21-14 lead into halftime before the Bumblebees rallied and the teams traded scoring drives throughout the second half. With the score tied at 36-36 in the final seconds, Marble Falls kicker Jett Marcum's field-goal attempt hit the left upright, giving the Mustangs the victory. The win was a bounce-back performance for Marble Falls, which opened the season with a 45-29 loss to Lockhart. Marble Falls will look to carry that momentum into Friday's game against Fredericksburg, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. Burnet Bulldogs vs. Lago Vista Vikings (Home) KICKOFF: 7:00 p.m. Friday WHERE: Bulldog Stadium, 1401 N. Main Street in Burnet The Burnet Bulldogs in their previous match-up to the Llano Yellowjackets before losing to the Taylor Ducks. Contributed photo by Martelle Luedecke LAST WEEK: Taylor 49, Burnet 30 Burnet will look to get its first win Friday when it hosts Lago Vista after opening the season with consecutive losses to Llano and Taylor. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 38-31 loss to Llano before falling 49-30 to Taylor last week. Burnet has scored 61 points through two games while allowing 87. Burnet has gotten production from several players early in the season. Sophomore Ethan Sanchez leads the Bulldogs with 97.5 rushing yards per game and four total touchdowns, while senior Calan Syphrett is averaging 69 receiving yards per game. Lago Vista enters Friday's matchup at 1-1 after earning its first win of the season last week with a 35-21 victory over Canyon Lake. Burnet will look to turn its early-season offense into its first win when the Bulldogs take on Lago Vista at 7 p.m. Friday. Faith Academy Flames at Heritage Christian (Away) KICKOFF: 7:30 p.m. Friday WHERE: Heritage Christian Field, 1200 FM 156 in Haslet The Faith Academy Flames took their first victory against Hill Country Christian. Contributed photo by Stennis Shotts LAST WEEK: Faith Academy 51, Hill Country Christian 50 Faith Academy will look to build on its first regular-season win Friday when it travels to Heritage Christian after beating Hill Country Christian 51-50 last week. The Flames opened the season with a 42-16 loss to Founders Classical Academy before responding with a 51-point offensive performance against Hill Country Christian. Faith Academy enters Friday's matchup with a 1-1 regular-season record. The win came in a back-and-forth game that Faith Academy ultimately won by one point, giving the Flames their first victory of the season. Heritage Christian will host Faith Academy at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Llano Yellowjackets vs. Blanco Panthers (Home) KICKOFF: 7:00 p.m. Friday WHERE: Jacket Stadium, 400 Texas 71 East in Llano The Llano Yellowjackets remain undefeated after securing a win against the Jim Ned Indians. Contributed photo by Martelle Luedecke LAST WEEK: Llano 26, Jim Ned 7 Llano will look to remain unbeaten Friday when it hosts Blanco after opening the season with consecutive wins over Burnet and Jim Ned. The Yellowjackets opened with a 38-31 win over Burnet before defeating Jim Ned 26-7 last week. Llano enters Friday's matchup with a 2-0 record and has outscored its opponents 64-38. Sophomore Cole Landers leads Llano with 180 rushing yards per game, while senior quarterback Luke Davis has accounted for five total touchdowns. Senior Jason Cherry leads the defense with 13.5 tackles per game, and senior Evan Gomez has recorded four sacks.
