Dr. Dinesh Sharma Meets Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, Seeks Guidance Ahead of Assuming A&N LG Role

Sri Vijaya Puram | September 8, 2026 Lieutenant Governor-designate of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. Dinesh Sharma, met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence at 5-Kalidas Marg in Lucknow and sought his guidance ahead of taking charge of his new constitutional responsibility. Dr. Sharma shared the development through a post on social media, describing the meeting as a 'warm visit' to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. He said he had called on Yogi Adityanath to seek his guidance. The meeting comes days after Dr. Sharma was appointed Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by President of India. The appointment, announced by the President's Secretariat on September 5, will take effect from the date Dr. Sharma assumes charge of the office. Dr. Sharma, 62, is a former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and a sitting BJP Rajya Sabha member. He served as Deputy Chief Minister during Yogi Adityanath's first term as Chief Minister from 2017 to 2022, handling portfolios including secondary and higher education, science and technology, and electronics and information technology. The meeting with Yogi Adityanath is particularly significant given Dr. Sharma's long association with the Uttar Pradesh government during the Chief Minister's first tenure. He had also previously served as Mayor of Lucknow and as a professor in the Commerce Department of the University of Lucknow. Dr. Sharma is set to succeed Admiral D.K. Joshi (Retd.), who has served as Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory since October 2017. His appointment comes as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands continue to witness a focus on strategic and infrastructure development. The Lt. Governor-designate has already expressed gratitude to the President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and the BJP's central leadership following his appointment, describing the new responsibility as a commitment to the Constitution, the nation and public service.
