Prince Harry, Meghan will not be working royals, King Charles confirms

Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are to remain nonworking member of the British royal family after they return to the U.K. The couple moved back to Britain from California last month with their children, Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, will still not be allowed to use the titles of His or Her Royal Highness, the letter signed by the Lord Chamberlain, the royal household's most senior official. "It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family," read the letter. "This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected," it continued. NBC News cited a Buckingham Place source as saying that the letter had been given to Harry's team on Monday. The source added that it was put out publicly since it would have probably been leaked. The letter said the couple's charitable work was "a personal matter for them both and undertaken in their private capacity" and "in short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests." Harry and Meghan six years ago stepped down as working royals and moved to Montecito, California.
