Mahesh Gupta gets 2 days' police custody in Satya Niketan collapse case

The Duty Magistrate of Patiala House remanded Mahesh Gupta to two days' police custody on the night of September 8 in connection with the Satya Niketan building collapse case. His parents, Hariram Gupta and Urmila Gupta, were sent to judicial custody. The trio was produced before the Duty Judicial Magistrate First Class Bhavya Karhail late at night after their arrest in the case, in which seven people died following the collapse of a five-storey building on September 6. The police requested custodial remand of Mahesh Gupta and 14 days of judicial custody for Hariram and Urmila Gupta. According to the police, the building's electricity connection was registered in Hariram Gupta's name, while management was handled by his son Mahesh Gupta. The property ownership is in the name of Hariram's wife, Urmila Gupta. ADVERTISEMENT The arrests concern Hariram Gupta, aged 81, a retired Sergeant from the Indian Air Force, his wife Urmila Gupta, aged 75, and their son Mahesh Gupta, aged 52, who runs a hardware and paint shop and has two children. Investigations revealed the property is under Urmila Gupta's name but was operated by Hariram and Mahesh Gupta. Hariram held electricity connections for two floors. Police are also searching for PG operators and labour contractors to assess their roles and take appropriate action.
