Girl Shot Inside Car in Gladeview, Miami-Dade

A juvenile girl was found shot inside a vehicle in Gladeview early Monday after gunfire tore through the Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood overnight, according to authorities. Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a ShotSpotter alert near Northwest 21st Avenue and 69th Terrace around 12:40 a.m. and found the girl inside the car with apparent gunshot wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units transported the victim to Ryder Trauma Center, according to WSVN 7News. She is now in stable condition. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made, and detectives had not released information about a possible suspect. Ryder Trauma Center, part of Jackson Memorial Hospital, is Miami-Dade County's only certified Level 1 trauma center equipped to treat both adults and children, according to Jackson Health System. The facility also provides pediatric trauma care. This is not the first time Northwest 21st Avenue and 69th Terrace has drawn a law enforcement response tied to gunfire. In April, deputies responding to a ShotSpotter alert near Northwest 21st Avenue and 69th Street located a wounded man who was hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital, as Hoodline previously reported. The area has also seen other gunfire alerts. In February, deputies responded to an 11-round ShotSpotter alert in Gladeview and arrested four suspects after locating a vehicle near Northwest 70th Street and Northwest 21st Avenue, according to WPLG Local 10. That case followed a search of a residential yard near Northwest 69th Terrace, underscoring how frequently this small stretch of streets has become a flashpoint for gunfire. Miami-Dade County uses ShotSpotter to help identify possible gunfire and dispatch patrol units. That system is how deputies were first alerted to Monday's gunfire, arriving at the scene before locating the wounded girl inside the vehicle. Gladeview, the unincorporated community surrounding the intersection, spans 2.56 square miles and is home to roughly 15,300 residents, with a poverty rate near 27.5%. The neighborhood sits directly adjacent to Liberty City in northwest Miami-Dade, an area that has seen repeated overnight shootings documented in Hoodline's recent coverage of a deadly e-bike crash tied to a fleeing shooter. Once a suspect is identified, Florida Statute § 790.19 classifies wantonly or maliciously shooting a firearm into or at an occupied vehicle as a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in state prison and a $10,000 fine, according to legal information compiled by Leppard Law. The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear. The investigation falls under the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Community violence and outreach initiatives are also part of the broader response.
