Jay-Z lands major Super Bowl gig after years behind the scenes: 'Dream come true' Jay Z is taking a leap from choosing halftime acts to performing on "the world's biggest" stage. On Monday night, Jay Z has been announced as the halftime show performer for the 2027 Super Bowl by Roc Nation and Apple Music during ESPN's Football broadcast. For those unversed, Jay Z also serves as the NFL's live music entertainment strategist. Roc Nation also posted a video clip of Jay-Z sitting in a football stadium and captioned the post, 'GOAT's out of the bag." The rapper gushed over in a statement, 'From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey.' He continued, 'Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.' In 2019, the NFL assigned Jay Z to select the halftime performer along with Roc Nation. He also helped with social-justice reform initiatives. Jesse Collins, who is the halftime show producer, revealed to Variety what Jay Z actually does as NFL's live music entertainment strategist. 'It's a decision that Jay makes,' he said, referring to his duty of selecting performers for the halftime show. 'Since we've been onboard with that show, he's made it every year, and it's been amazing. He's always picked right.' This announcement came after Jay Z released his docuseries, JAŸ-Z in 8, on HBO. Last year, Bad Bunny headlined the halftime show and it became the fourth-most watched Super Bowl halftime show in history after the Puerto Rican star performace brought 128.2 million viewers. Super Bowl LXI is all set to take place on February 14 at SoFi Stadium in California.
