Masuk volleyball team looks to build off success

MONROE, Conn. — Masuk High's girls volleyball team, coming off a runner-up finish in the South-West Conference Tournament last season, will look to continue its winning ways on the court this fall. 'Our goal this season is to continue building on the success we've established as a program,' Coach Carol Ortiz said. 'We return five experienced players, including four seniors and one junior, and we're especially excited to have two seniors back who earned All-State honors last season. Their leadership, experience and competitive mindset will be major strengths for our team.' The Panthers are led by senior captains Grace Morrow (libero), Addison Scott (outside hitter) who earned Second Team All State honors, and Mia Tyler (setter) who was a First Team All State honoree last fall. Other key returning players are senior Jacqui Silkman (opposite side hitter) and junior Grace Kehoe (middle hitter). 'While we graduated some key contributors from last year's squad, we have a talented group of younger players who are stepping into larger roles,' Ortiz said. 'They have brought great energy, enthusiasm and a strong work ethic to the gym, which has helped create positive momentum heading into the season. I hope to see this team grow together, embrace their roles, and continue improving throughout the year. 'Our strengths will be our experience, leadership and team chemistry, combined with the talent and excitement of our younger players,' the coach added. 'If we continue to develop and play to our potential, we believe we have the pieces in place to make another strong run at a title.'
