The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission has deferred the schedule for the upcoming local government elections by one week. According to the commission, the provincial government has been given an additional seven days to finalise proposed amendments to the Local Government Act 2014. The election body said all stages of the electoral process affected by the delay would be assigned new dates under a revised schedule. It added that the polling earlier set for September 27 would also be conducted on a rescheduled date. The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission will issue a fresh election programme once the seven-day extension period comes to an end.
