Pakistan, Kuwait discuss ties and regional developments

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah on Monday. The two ministers discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on important regional developments during the telephone conversation. The discussion reflected efforts by both countries to maintain close diplomatic coordination. Pakistan and Kuwait have continued to engage on matters of shared interest. Both sides discussed future engagement between their governments. They agreed to meet on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session. The meeting is expected to provide another opportunity for discussions on bilateral cooperation. It could also help both sides exchange views on regional issues. Meanwhile, Pakistan has continued to engage with regional and international partners on major political developments. The country has also maintained its position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Earlier, Pakistan rejected what it described as baseless Indian claims about the disputed region. Islamabad said India's position contradicted internationally recognised facts. Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said India's unilateral actions could not change Jammu and Kashmir's disputed status. He said India's continued occupation could not alter the internationally recognised position. Pakistan also described the dispute as one of the oldest unresolved issues before the United Nations Security Council. Islamabad continues to support the internationally recognised framework for addressing the dispute. Pakistan said these maps depict the region as disputed territory. Meanwhile, diplomatic contacts with Kuwait are expected to continue through upcoming international engagements. Dar and his Kuwaiti counterpart will meet during the UN General Assembly session. Such meetings could provide further opportunities to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss regional developments.
