To some, it seemed to have happened only yesterday. The tragic events on September 11, 2001 will always be seared into the memories of those who were around to experience it. Those tragic events in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania not only shook the country but also the world.
On the 25th anniversary of that horrible day, a commemoration ceremony will be held at Evins Park downtown to remember the victims and brave souls who lost their lives that day. The ceremony will be held Friday, September 11, at 11:30 a.m.
The observance will feature remarks by State Representative Michael Hale and local officials, including the Smithville and DeKalb County mayors, and local first responders. The public is invited to attend.
