Things We Don't Notice

I think that we don't give ourselves enough credit on how life moves quietly. I remember having a friend who would always check up on me. Sometimes, she'd ask if I had eaten. Sometimes, she'd throw me some random thing that she thought would make me smile. I don't remember always responding, i mean i responded when I could. Life was just too busy for me, and I guess I had too many things on my plate to make time for something as trivial as a chat, I mean at some point it just doesn't move me. So I got distant, unknowingly. She tried multiple times, and eventually, she gave up. I didn't quite seem to notice her going. I was busy with school, then money, then deadlines, and loads of other important things. I only realized later that I had grown so accustomed to having her around. And I thought about how people can be so blind to the presence of others, not out of malice but of taking their presence for granted. Thinking that there will always be time to talk, to ask questions, to make things better. It's always the big gestures that we make to show that someone matters to us. I think we should strive to fill our lives with small, seemingly unimportant gestures. Replying to the message. Asking the additional question. Taking more time. Telling someone that you appreciate them while doing so still seems normal. As people don't always leave with a dramatic goodbye. Sometimes, they simply grow quiet. And one day, you realize that you don't hear them as much as you used to. I think that is the lesson. Not to be blind to the people in our lives. And there is still time. Notice them. Subscribe now
