PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh's Rialto Street will close to traffic starting Monday as crews make repairs to the Lowrie Street Bridge in Troy Hill. Rialto Street, located under the bridge, is expected to close for one to two months. The bridge's concrete beams and concrete deck were replaced in 2020-2021, but the city said it has maintained a 'poor' rating due to the condition of the abutments, which support each end of the bridge. Crews will work to replace aging and deteriorating stones and clean and repoint the abutment. The scheduled work will require a long-term closure on Rialto Street between Ley Street and Route 28. Pedestrians will still be able to access Rialto Street, but vehicles will be detoured via Route 28, Chestnut Street and Troy Hill Road. The Lowrie Street Bridge is expected to remain open throughout construction. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts.
