(NEXSTAR) – It's not just chicken chains and massive travel centers that are expanding. Warehouse giant Costco is on track to open more than a dozen new stores in the next few months, many of which will be throughout the U.S.
With these new warehouses will undoubtedly come the popular Kirkland items that Costco cut prices on earlier this year, a new food court item, a new option for its $1.50 hot dog combo, and its usually cheaper fuel.
Costco has been experiencing a bit of a growth spurt this year, already opening stores in Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota, New York, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin (as well as Mexico and Taiwan).
In March, CEO Ron Vachris said the company aims to open 30 or more warehouses annually over the next five to 10 years, echoing remarks from CFO Gary Millerchip. Roughly half would be new warehouses in the U.S., while the others would be worldwide. Vachris mentioned Mexico, Canada, Asia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand as sites for future warehouses.
Potentially to the disappointment of residents of Rhode Island, West Virginia, and Wyoming, Costco is not expanding into any new states just yet.
As of early September, there are five new Costco warehouses scheduled to open in October:
Lee's Summit, Missouri
The Colony, Texas
Amherst, New York
Lawrence, Kansas
Camarillo, California
Opening dates for two stores were available on Costco's website: the Lee's Summit store is slated for an Oct. 2 opening, while the Amherst warehouse is targeting Oct. 28. The gas station at the latter opened last week, according to Nexstar's WIVB. The gas station at the Camarillo site opened in May, Costco's website shows, while the warehouse is said to open on Oct. 30.
Then in November, Costco plans to open nine additional warehouses, four of which are in Canada. More specifically, those warehouses will be in Northeast Edmonton and Lloydminster, Alberta, and East Windsor and Wasaga Beach, Ontario.

The U.S. locations slated to open in the same month, according to Costco, are:
South Meridian, Idaho
Vallejo, California
Chandler, Arizona
Newport News, Virginia
Franklin, Wisconsin
Specific opening dates were not immediately available for these new Costco locations. The warehouse in Arizona will be a business center.
For some, Costco's new store isn't a new presence in the community. The warehouse expected to open soon in Newport News, for example, is replacing a store that has been in the city since 1988. Nexstar's WAVY reported last year that Costco purchased a 32-acre property a few blocks from its current Newport News warehouse with the intention of building a 163,000 square-foot retail warehouse and fuel station.
Meanwhile, local reporting shows Costco is working to bring warehouses to even more communities. City officials in Downey, California, approved a plan for a new Costco earlier this year, while plans for warehouses in Charleston County, South Carolina, and Hillsborough County, Florida, were submitted this summer.
Efforts have also been underway in Fresno, California; Lake St. Louis, Missouri; Southborough, Massachusetts; Silver Spring, Maryland; Scottsdale, Arizona; and Des Plaines, Illinois. The latter is anticipated to be a business center.
Costco recently rolled out new products at its warehouses as well, including new coffee and snacks.
