Leonardo DiCaprio's long-awaited action thriller sequel has confirmed yet another star in its stacked ensemble cast, which now includes several major award winners. From writer-director Michael Mann, the filmmaker is officially revisiting his classic crime film in a new follow-up that directly adapts the follow-up novel of the same name. And, in the spirit of the 1995 original, he has enlisted A-listers to take on the iconic roles. Variety reports that Emmy-winning Adolescence star Stephen Graham is officially confirmed to star in Heat 2, with him expected to take on the role of Neil McCauley, originally played by Robert De Niro in the first film. He would be playing a younger version of the character, a bit ironic considering Graham is technically a year older than De Niro was when he first portrayed Neil. Graham joins a star-studded cast that currently includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Adam Driver, Jason Clarke, and Odessa Young. Based on the 2022 novel written by Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner, Heat 2 directly continues the original 1995 storyline as Chris Shiherlis narrowly escapes the brutal shootout in Los Angeles. With Vincent Hanna on his tail, Chris escapes from the United States, beginning a years-long manhunt. However, Heat 2 is also largely focused on the events set years before the first film, when Hanna and Neil McCauley's crew were all based in Chicago. The sprawling narrative spans several decades, fleshing out the original characters while introducing several new ones. In addition to Stephen Graham as Neil McCauley, Heat 2 features Leonardo DiCaprio as Chris Shiherlis, originally portrayed by the late Val Kilmer, while Christian Bale plays Vincent Hanna, Al Pacino's original protagonist. Odessa Young (Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere) is set to take on Charlene, the wife of Chris Shiherlis. Her role was played by Ashley Judd in the 1995 film. Meanwhile, Adam Driver is expected to play Otis Wardell, the primary antagonist of the original Heat 2 novel. Jason Clarke is poised to take on an undisclosed supporting role. More to come.
