HEC reviews execution of anti-drug policy in ICT institutions

ISLAMABAD - A meeting to review the implementation and monitoring of the HEC Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), 2021 in the Islamabad Capital Territory was held here at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Friday. The meeting, chaired by Executive Director HEC Dr Zia Ul Haq, was attended by Director General (Research & Analysis Activities) HEC Engr. Saleemullah Sahoo along with relevant HEC officials and representatives of ICT Police. Executive Director HEC emphasised the importance of collective and sustained efforts by HEC, law-enforcement agencies, and higher education institutions (HEIs) to prevent drug and tobacco abuse among students and to promote a healthy and conducive learning environment across higher education institutions. During the meeting, the DG (R&AA) briefed the participants on the key provisions of the HEC Policy and the Commission's ongoing efforts to ensure its effective implementation, compliance, and monitoring in HEIs located in the ICT. The meeting also focused on strengthening inter-agency coordination and monitoring mechanisms involving HEC and ICT Police to ensure a safe, healthy, and drug-free educational environment for students. The participants discussed measures for regular monitoring of HEIs, identification of gaps in policy implementation, and coordinated follow-up actions. An official told that the Safe City team briefed the visiting students on the central system of Safe City Islamabad, Command and Control Centre, modern surveillance cameras and Police Operations Centre Hall. The students were given an overview of how different parts of the Safe City system operate and support police operations in the federal capital. The delegation was also informed about the use of modern camera technology and the role of the Command and Control Centre in supporting policing activities. The visit provided the students an opportunity to see the technology and operational setup of Safe City Islamabad and understand its role in modern policing. Tags:
