Chennai: A day after alleging that 'crores of rupees and ministerial berths' were offered to them seeking support, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MLA Syed Farooq Basha said his remarks were distorted. Farooq Basha said in the assembly that his remarks made at an IUML meeting at Tiruvannamalai on Sunday were projected as an allegation against TVK. 'I said that the DMK and AIADMK had come together and wanted an AIADMK leader to be made Chief Minister,' he said. But IUML rejected such a proposal because the AIADMK was aligned with the BJP , he said. 'IUML cannot be swayed by money. We extended our support to TVK on ideological grounds,'' he said. State minorities welfare minister A M Shahjahan, also from IUML, alleged that the two IUML legislators were confined in a hotel and intimidated to prevent them from supporting TVK. He said IUML was contacted by `DMK leadership' on May 7 with a proposal naming a CM candidate. 'Another proposal was made on May 8. But we rejected it,'' he said without elaborating. 'On May 8, who took two Indian Union Muslim League members to a hotel and confined them there? Who threatened them? Who placed people to keep watch over us?' he asked. State PWD minister Aadhav Arjuna said a probe would be conducted on these charges.
