African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has strongly condemned an attack and road blockade targeting Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi in Benue State o Tuesday, September 8,, warning that those orchestrating the hostility are threatening democratic rights. The incident occurred when suspected thugs barricaded a major access road to prevent Obi from entering the state capital, Makurdi. Obi subsequently clarified that his presence in the state was strictly intended for humanitarian purposes rather than political campaigning. - Advertisement - In a statement posted to his official X account on Tuesday, Sowore described the blockade as state-sponsored political brigandage and demanded an immediate end to the intimidation. 'I strongly condemn these acts of political brigandage by agents of the state government and the Tinubu regime. This is totally unacceptable.' Sowore emphasized that political candidates must be allowed to move and engage citizens freely across the country without fear of violent disruption. 'No candidate should be prevented through violence, intimidation or state-sponsored thuggery from campaigning freely anywhere in Nigeria,' he stated. 'Those behind these cowardly attacks are toying with fire and threatening the democratic rights of all Nigerians. They must desist immediately before it is too late.'
