Mizzou LB commit Kobe Rhymes dominates in front of Eli Drinkwitz: Future Tigers

With his future coaches on hand, Kobe Rhymes again stuffed the box score. The Class of 2027 linebacker, who committed to Missouri during his official visit in late May, notched the first win of his senior season, taking down Kansas City (Mo.) Oak Park on the road, 42-21. In front of Tigers head coach Eli Drinkwitz and co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson, the North Kansas City (Mo.) four-star totaled 10 tackles with five for lost yardage. He also scored and logged one pancake block, which likely resonated well with North Kansas City offensive line coach Jayson Palmgren, a former Missouri guard who also serves as Rhymes' guardian. 'I knew that he could be something great, and I wanted to help him with that process as much as I could,' Palmgren said in June. 'Talking with this family, we all decided that a better situation would be to stay with me (at the end of his freshman year), so I could guide him better since I've been through the process. I could help him with school and make sure that he's doing the right things.' Rhymes has set his eyes on the Thomas A. Simone Award, which is given yearly to the most outstanding high school football player in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Through two weeks this season, he has totaled 22 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hurries, one sack, one pass breakup and one forced fumble. High, Omaha (Neb.) Westside quarterback Braylen Warren completed 10 of his 22 passing attempts for 166 yards and two touchdowns, connecting a long of 44 yards. The Rivals Industry four-star also got tacked for -3 rushing yards on seven attempts. + After only 12 yards on six carries in his senior season debut, Kingston Miles didn't play in St. Louis (Mo.) St. Mary's 14-12 win over Festus (Mo.) due to an undisclosed injury. Class of 2028 prospect Milano Mitchell Jr. shined in lieu of the four-star running back. + Belleville (Mich.) High has remained winless to start the season, but three-star wideout Tre Britton III had six receptions for 35 yards to go along with 32 return yards in a 41-31 loss to Howell (Mich.) High. + Lee's Summit (Mo.) West four-star wide receiver Chris Harris Jr. recorded seven catches for 126 yards, including a 47-yard touchdown catch in a 31-21 win over Kansas City (Mo.) Park Hill. + In the first win of his senior season, four-star Jack Brown, who plays in all three phases, ripped a ball out of a Florissant (Mo.) Hazelwood Central running back's hands for a forced fumble and recovery in the fourth quarter of a 20-7 victory. The Cottleville (Mo.) Francis Howell Central tight end also scored a 66-yard touchdown on a swing pass. Defense: + La Grange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy three-star edge rusher Chris Kasky remained out with a leg injury, head coach Tim Racki said. The Roadrunners fell to 1-2 with a 35-7 loss to powerhouse Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel. + Brownsburg (Ind.) defensive lineman Dami Sowunmi totaled one solo tackle in a 48-0 win over Indianapolis (Ind.) Franklin Central to improve to 3-0. + While continuing to star both ways, Republic (Mo.) athlete Keiran Govan took four carries for 109 yards and one touchdown, while logging a long of 80 yards on the ground. The Rivals Industry four-star safety also had one solo tackle in a 54-10 win over Springfield (Mo.) Kickapoo. + As East St. Louis (Ill.) High continued its national schedule, three-star safety Jabarri Lofton contributed eight tackles — seven solo — in a 24-21 win over Gainesville (Ga.) High.
