ACU Yeager Shots

* Texas Tech's first two drives in this game were textbook and both produced touchdowns. The Red Raiders essentially bowled the Wildcats over at the line of scrimmage and dominated with the rushing attack. And with backs such as J'Koby Williams, Cameron dickey and Quinten Joyner on the field, this was to be expected. But a funny thing happened on the way to the rout. Texas Tech's ground game dried up and the Red Raiders ceased scoring touchdowns. Indeed, after Texas Tech scored its second touchdown with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter, they don't breach the goal line again until the 2:45 mark of the fourth quarter. What for all the world looked like it was going to be a 1995 Nebraska-style infantry massacre instead turned into something of a stalemate. But that's not even the most bothersome part. It seems pretty clear that, after the Red Raiders' second touchdown, the ACU defensive coordinator began slipping a safety into the box to help against the run. Thus, the Wildcats were playing one high a great deal of the time. Problem is, Texas Tech only made them pay for this once, and that was on the 64-yard touchdown pass to Malcolm Simmons late in the fourth quarter.
