Rain benefit on late-season crops

DES LACS, N.D. (KMOT) - Despite this summer's harsh weather, late summer crops may actually see some benefits from recent rain showers. Amanda Kopp and her family farm near Des Lacs. Kopp said the recent rains have actually benefited some of their late-season crops like soybeans. Her family farm focuses on soybeans, spring wheat, and canola, but with the rain showers the area has been seeing in the past few weeks, some of the crops that she thought may not be worth combining can be saved. 'Two, three weeks ago, before we started getting rain, I didn't know if we'd even combine our soybeans because there was gonna be nothing there 'cause it had been so dry,' said Kopp. Kopp said that rain can help crops like soybeans fill in the pods, and also fill in the ears of corn.
