The Madison County Sheriff's Office arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the death of his mother.
The New Hope Police Department responded to the scene in the 2000 block of Oak Grove after receiving a call for a welfare check. They found the victim, Anna Young, 53, dead in the home.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to conduct a death investigation. Upon reviewing evidence, detectives determined the death was a homicide.
During the investigation, the victim's son, Donovan Axton Young, was named a suspect. After issuing a BOLO (be on the lookout), authorities tracked him down and took him into custody.
Donovan Axton Young was booked into the Madison County Jail and charged with murder. He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
Sheriff Kevin Turner thanked police from Huntsville, New Hope and Owens Crossroads for their help locating the offender.
'This was a tragic situation, and our thoughts remain with the family and everyone affected by this loss,' said Turner. 'I am extremely proud of the work of our detectives, crime scene personnel, and the surrounding agencies that assisted throughout the night. Their cooperation and determination led to a swift arrest in this case.'
A possible motive and the cause of death have not been revealed.
