De Castro street sidewalk works delayed over outstanding contractual, administrative requirements

Works will no longer begin today on the DeCastro Street Sidewalk Improvement project. When the $798,000 contract was signed at end of July with TMB Enterprises, it was said that works will begin on Monday September 7th. A bone of contention with the project is the replacement of trees on De Castro Street as many persons in the community have voiced their strong objections to that being done. The Virgin Islands Recovery and Development Agency, RDA announced over the weekend that the works on the DeCastro Street Sidewalks Improvement Project will not commence on September 7 as previously announced. The RDA said this is due to the non-completion of remaining contractual and administrative requirements. The Agency said a further update will be provided following the completion of these remaining requirements. Some persons believe the works were stopped or delayed because of public protest, however the RDA said for that for clarity, the revised commencement is due to outstanding contractual and administrative requirements. RDA stated that the project's scope and objectives remain unchanged.
