The return is almost here. Get ready for the Yellowjackets to be rescued. It has been a reasonably long time since viewers caught up with the hit supernatural drama. But in the triumphant closing scene of Yellowjackets season 3, the teen version of Natalie sets in motion the long-awaited rescue of herself and her plane-crash cohorts. It is a moment that might have served as the narrative's driving force. But instead, it serves as a farewell note. Yellowjackets season 4 premieres November 20 on Paramount+. It will be the last season for the breakout streaming hit, which offered a spotlight to the veteran main foursome of Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, and Juliette Lewis, as well as serving as a major launching pad for the next generation, including Sophie Nélisse, Ella Purnell, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, and Samantha Hanratty. Entertainment Weekly has unveiled new first-look photos of the final Yellowjackets season, which highlight the wilderness survivors looking up at their rescue. The photos also pull back the curtain on the question of what awaits those teens once they return to their normal lives, including an apparent school auditorium meeting. The gallery below also includes new looks at Hilary Swank's role as Melissa and Warren Kole as Jeff. Close Series co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, who have spearheaded the supernatural drama since its November 2021 beginning, are keeping a tight lid on how things will shake out for the Yellowjackets characters. One thing that is guaranteed, though, is that the transition back to regular life will not be easy for any of the plane crash survivors involved. It's also teased that, in the current timeline, Lynskey's Shauna will still be positioned as the villain. Molly Ringwald, an icon of the 1980s, who has appeared in The Bear, Riverdale, and Feud, joins in the recast role of Van's mother. The popular and legendary June Squibb is also among the new additions, although her character has not been disclosed. On the whole, the stage is set for goodbyes. It is an unusual goodbye because viewers already know so much about what happens once the teens grow up, potentially zapping their transition period of any dramatic tension and again raising the question of whether Yellowjackets would have fared better if it tried to let the story unfold chronologically, with only brief Lost-style glimpses into the present rather than trying to satisfy both timelines equally. Even with that caveat, however, Yellowjackets still managed to deliver memorable moments in each installment. It's fair to say that this last batch of episodes will continue down that lane, especially because there's no use holding anything back so close to the finish line.
