Madras High Court summons Tindivanam Sub Collector

The Madras High Court has summoned Tindivanam Sub Collector A.K. Akash on September 25, 2026 to explain the reason for not having complied with a court order to post a Village Administrative Officer in a non-senstive post after revoking his suspension order. Justice P.T. Asha ordered the Sub Collector to be present in the court pursuant to a contempt of court petition filed against him. Convinced with the allegations levelled against the officer, the judge wrote: 'This is nothing but a clear act of contempt of orders of this Court.' The judge had on April 29, 2026 allowed a writ petition filed by V. Karunakaran who had been suspended on account of a criminal case pending against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The judge ordered that his supension must be revoked and he must be accommodated in a non-senstive post. Though the Sub Collector had revoked the suspension order in accordance with the court directive, he had rejected the petitioner's plea to accommodate him in a non-sensitive post and hence the present contempt plea.
