Canada's incentive landscape continues to change, making it important for homeowners to check current federal, provincial, municipal and utility requirements before selecting equipment.
The application period for the federally administered Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program ended on July 31, 2026, for residents of Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, Quebec and Saskatchewan. Other provinces and territories have used separate delivery arrangements and may follow different timelines. Existing federal applicants have until January 31, 2027, to submit required documents.
The federal Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program is also being introduced through participating provincial and territorial partners. The program provides no-cost home energy retrofits, which may include heat pumps, for eligible low- and median-income homeowners and tenants. Availability and application processes vary by jurisdiction.
Other programs remain available in parts of Canada. Examples include:
Toronto Home Energy Loan Program: Toronto homeowners can borrow up to $125,000 for eligible home improvements, including air-source heat pumps. Repayment terms of up to 20 years are available for qualifying heat pump projects. Current rates and terms are subject to change. Home Renovation Savings Program, Ontario: Eligible homeowners may qualify for rebates of up to $7,500 for a qualifying cold-climate air-source heat pump, or $12,000 for a qualifying ground-source heat pump. Better Homes B.C.: British Columbia continues to offer heat pump rebates through programs with eligibility based on household income, existing heating fuel and equipment type. Current incentives can reach up to $13,000 for certain central ducted or multi-split heat pump projects, with additional northern top-ups available in qualifying areas.
Program availability, funding and eligible equipment lists can change. Homeowners should verify requirements directly with the program administrator and their contractor before purchasing a system.
