Seattle weather: Summer will hang on for a few more days

Summer is clawing its way back into Seattle. The recent bouts of gray weather haven't been enough to put the season in the ground, as this week starts out with some higher temperatures, sunny skies and not a hint of rain. Tuesday will see temperatures in the mid-70s, which is about average in Seattle this time of year, said National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Michalski. The heat will crank up a bit Wednesday, with temperatures reaching nearly 80, he said, and sunshine will be abundant. So if there are any last summer plans you've yet to check off this year's bucket list, now's the time. A swim in the lake? A tennis match? A midweek camping trip? Because after Thursday, fall will fight to wrest the rest of the week from summer's gasp. A system settling in Thursday will bring clouds and cooler temperatures down to about 70, though it doesn't promise much in terms of precipitation, Michalski said. Any rain will stick mostly to the Cascades where the drier weather will have meant increased fire risk. Friday and Saturday could see some showers, Michalski said, though we're only expecting about a tenth of an inch of rain. The cool and cloudy weather will dominate the weekend while temperatures drop to the high 60s, Michalski said, and we'll be that much closer to the start of fall.
