While he's taking a break from coaching, there's one player that he wouldn't mind working with. Tomlin stepped away from the Steelers and is working as a broadcaster. Mike McCarthy has taken over as coach in Pittsburgh. It's unknown how long Tomlin would consider returning to coaching. Over the years, he had a relationship with Ben Roethlisberger and Aaron Rodgers. If an opportunity presented itself, Tomlin would want to coach Bills QB Josh Allen. "It'd be Josh for me," Tomlin told PFF's "NFL Show" host Jac Collinsworth via theScore. "It just seems like he's at his best in the most critical moments. Late in the games, he finds a way to do it. He can do it with his arms. He can do it with his legs. He looks like not only does he want it, he needs it. He looks like he's built for it. I got a lot of respect for that dude." The seventh overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Allen was the 2024 NFL MVP and has led the Bills to multiple playoff appearances. Allen holds multiple franchise and NFL records. However, he doesn't have an ideal record in the playoffs. It's a crowded playoff field. Allen has dealt with the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, and, now, Drake Maye. The Broncos took down the Bills in the playoffs last year after an Allen interception led to a game-winning field goal. Meanwhile, Tomlin won a Super Bowl with the Steelers, a team he never had a losing record with. It's unknown if Tomlin will ever be able to coach Allen. Though Buffalo let go of coach Sean McDermott, the team hired Joe Brady as head coach. Circumstances would have to be extreme for Tomlin to enter the mix, as he's still under contract with the Steelers. Still, Tomlin couldn't help but praise one of the best QBs in football.
