The Pittsburgh Steelers are carrying four quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster, a rare decision in the modern NFL. It's a decision Pittsburgh's starter, veteran Aaron Rodgers, spoke candidly about. "I was thinking it was a possibility, but I don't think I've been on a roster with four quarterbacks," Rodgers said, via ESPN. "Obviously when you do that, you're taking away a spot from another place in the team. But at the same time, if the best 53 are going to make it — and not saying they did — I think those four are part of the best 53." Still, Rodgers said he was happy for the quarterbacks behind him on the depth chart: Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Drew Allar. "I'm happy for all those guys," Rodgers said. "Obviously looking to the future, those other three guys are going to have a chance when I'm done. And with the growth you saw with Will and obviously with Drew being drafted so high, but also playing well in camp, I'm not surprised at all, and I'm excited about those guys' future." "That DM thing" In a sit-down with Steelers defensive tackle Cam Heyward, Rodgers touched on one of his first conversations with Allar, the rookie of the bunch, who had an infamous Dm he sent to a co-ed on Instagram go viral on social media back in his collegiate career with the Penn State Nittany Lions. " When I heard Drew Allar first thing I thought was oh that DM thing," Rodgers told Heyward. "Cause I remember seeing that it went around like the quarterback rooms. Cause quarterback rooms are like that like hey do you see this kid in college you know these DMs. I was like, 'oh sh*t, man.' One of the first things I said to him was like, 'Hey, the DM thing ever get you in trouble?' Especially when he was like, ' Yeah, I've been with my girlfriend for a long time.' And I was like, 'You got through that DM Scandal.'" Allar is almost certainly eager to put the situation behind him, and the good news is he seems to be doing just that. The rookie was impressive in his preseason action, and his summer garnered high praise from former NFL MVP Rich Gannon. "I liked him coming out… I think he understands the importance of ball security," Gannon said, per Steelernation.com. "He won a lot of football games at Penn State despite some challenges around him… I think he's got really good arm talent. "I think there's a lot of upside there. I think, you know, just processing and playing within the system is going to take some time… But I love the fact that he takes care of the football. He makes good decisions. He can push the ball down the field. I think he's got, you know, [a] really good arm, good vision."
