Rob Reiner honored with posthumous Emmy for ‘The Bear' appearance

The 78th Emmy Awards take place in exactly one week, but the Television Academy got an early start over the weekend by handing out awards for the creative arts as well as guest-starring roles and supporting actors. The ceremonies were split across two nights, with stars hitting the red carpet to support their fellow castmates and creative teams. More than 100 awards were handed out between the two days. The hit Apple TV+ show 'Widow's Bay' was the big winner on Sunday night, snagging eight awards. HBO Max's dark comedy 'DTF St. Louis' took home six awards. 'The Pitt and 'Pluribus' won four each. 'Beef,' 'Margo's Got Money Troubles' and 'Palm Royale' took home three wins, and 'Bridgerton' and 'Fallout' took home two apiece. This also marks the first year the major acting prizes were included, as the limited series supporting actor and actress categories have previously been featured during the main Emmys telecast. Linda Cardellini and David Harbour took the Emmys for their supporting performances in 'DTF St. Louis.' Shailene Woodley won for her guest role in Hulu's post-apocalyptic political thriller 'Paradise,' and Ernest Harden Jr. won for his guest role in HBO Max's medical drama 'The Pitt.' The Academy also honored the late Rob Reiner with a posthumous award for his guest star in a comedy role for his appearance in Hulu's 'The Bear.' Singer Bad Bunny won his first career Emmy for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime show. The historic Spanish-language production dominated the event and swept all seven categories in which it was nominated. The Nicolas Cage-led series 'Spider Noir' won five awards, a day after Prime Video announced it had canceled the series. It's been nominated for 11 total Emmys, the most for any show on the streamer. On the topic of streamers, this past weekend showed that Apple TV and HBO Max have positioned themselves as frontrunners with strong showings for multiple titles. Come Emmys Monday, HBO Max's 'The Pitt' and 'Hacks' as well as Apple TV's 'Pluribus' and 'Widow's Bay' are expected to win big. Mariska Hargitay, who won two Emmys over the weekend for her documentary 'My Mom Jayne,' will host the Sept. 14 broadcast live on NBC from the Peacock Theater at L.A.
