There was one winning ticket sold in New Jersey which successfully matched all six winning numbers for the Powerball drawing on Wednesday to scoop the jackpot amount of $847 million. This was the ninth-highest-paying jackpot in the history of the game, and also the highest-paying in the Northeast.
The numbers drawn were white balls 15, 34, 41, 53, and 56, along with red Powerball 21 and 2X Power Play Multiplier. There are two options available to the winner for receiving the money; either the entire sum of $847 million in installments spread over 29 years or in one lump sum cash payout of $363.1 million, but without any taxes.
The last grand prize winner came after 35 successive draws without anyone being able to match all the numbers. This is just two months since an October drawing in Illinois that paid out $1.04 billion. No winner has been announced so far, and it may never be, since New Jersey has no rule requiring the lottery to reveal winners.
According to an official from the state lottery, quoted by ABC7 New York, the winning ticket may have been purchased in Bergen County, although the specific retailer was not released.
There were five additional tickets that had matched the five white balls to win the second prizes, while 25 individuals won $50,000 each and four won $100,000 after selecting the Power Play.
The winner has a year to collect his winnings, which, according to financial experts, is a lot of time one can use to gather a group of professionals to handle the matter. The new jackpot has now been reset to $20 million for Saturday's draw.
