Rule named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Nebraska freshman running back Jamal Rule was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday by the conference office after the first week of the season. Rule was a star in his Cornhuskers' debut, rushing for 122 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. He added two catches for 47 yards and a touchdown in the pass game. His 122 yards marked the first 100-yard game by Husker freshman running back in a season opener since 2004 and the first 100-yard rushing game by any Husker in his debut since 2018. Rule's 122 yards rushing marked the seventh-highest total by a Big Ten freshman in a season opener since 1995, while his 169 yards from scrimmage marked just the fifth time in the last 30 years that a freshman had 160 or more yards from scrimmage in a season opener. With his three total touchdowns, Rule also became the first Big Ten freshman since 2021 to have two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown in a game. Nebraska is back in action Saturday at Memorial Stadium against Bowling Green. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 2 p.m. on KLIN and Froggy 98.
