Frito-Lay worker killed by stray bullet at Nashville Sam's Club

(WSMV) - Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department is looking for a shooter after a Frito-Lay worker was killed inside a Sam's Club early Sunday morning while restocking shelves. Police say a stray bullet went through the wall, fired during gunfire between two groups at a nearby nightclub. Shoppers at the South Nashville Sam's Club said they noticed increased security inside the store Monday and said they were saddened to learn a man was killed on Labor Day weekend while doing his job. Security could be seen circling the parking lot Monday, and workers repaired the wall where a bullet entered the Sam's Club in South Nashville around 4 a.m. Sunday, killing 55-year-old Paris Carlock of Murfreesboro. Carlock, a Frito-Lay employee, was inside the store stocking shelves. 'He's about the same age as I am a little bit older and to hear that he was a father my heart goes out to his family. It's a sad thing for the culture and the way that we are living,' said Brett Swayn, a Sam's Club shopper. Police say the incident started with a dispute between two groups at the nightclub Lavo on Antioch Pike, next door to Sam's Club. Security at the club kicked the groups outside to the parking lot, where multiple shots were fired and both groups fled. Hundreds of yards away, one of those bullets struck Carlock in the head as he worked in the middle of the store. He was taken to Vanderbilt Health, where he later died. A day later, the incident was fresh on the minds of shoppers concerned about safety. 'My only true safety comes from knowing the Lord,' Swayn said. Swayn said in times like these he turns to faith, but said it seems like violent incidents like these are becoming more and more common. 'I'm from Australia so my mother hears about this things and obviously a lot of the time we are getting the worse new so the school shootings and everything that happening in America causes great concern,' a shopper said. As Metro police continue to investigate, PepsiCo, which owns Frito-Lay, has expressed condolences to the victim's family and says it continues to work with local authorities in the matter.
