Man Utd's 2027 transfer plan already in tatters as priority target agrees deal

Manchester United target Lewis Hall has agreed a new deal with Newcastle, putting the Red Devils' plan to sign him in jeopardy. The former Chelsea man has a number of admirers at Old Trafford, with Hall seen as an ideal option to bolster at left-back. However, having already spent £140million on Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba this summer, a move for Hall was considered too expensive. That saw United chiefs shelve a swoop for his services until next summer at the very least. But it appears a move might be even trickier. As per the Times, Hall has agreed a new five-year deal to stay at St James' Park, with talks having progressed over the summer. It is suggested that the 22-year-old will become one of the best-paid players at the club once his new contract is rubber-stamped and will keep him at the club until 2031. United reportedly made contact over his services this summer and were willing to spend around £60m, only for Newcastle to tell their Premier League rivals that he was not for sale following the exits of Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon. Of course, a new deal does not guarantee that Hall will stay at Newcastle, albeit it will likely drive their price up should they be open to selling in 12 months' time. Asked last week if defence would be among his priorities next summer, United boss Michael Carrick said: "I think there is the evolution of trying to improve things all the time, and how the season goes, form, injuries, who's looking good, what the future looks like. "There's obviously a lot that goes into it, and step by step we're trying to improve. We'll see how the season goes and what we need to develop, but we've obviously got a clear idea what we want to look like coming through this summer to then a little bit further down the line." "The actual amount of money in the end, I understand it can be a big thing. It doesn't always have to be the answer, but it can be. "Money is one thing, what you do with it is another thing, how you make the most of it is another thing. It's about what happens on the pitch at the end of the day, and we just keep giving what we can, giving our best, you know, and keep trying to win."
