A contractor has been appointed for the Cahersiveen Waterfront Amenity and Boardwalk project, with works expected to commence in the coming weeks. Kerry TD Michael Cahill and Councillor Tommy Cahill have welcomed the appointment of Griffin Brothers Contracting Limited as the project moves into construction phase. The project will span the waterfront between the pier and the bridge, opening up a new public space for social gatherings and events, as well as providing a scenic link between two parts of the town. 'This is very welcome news for Cahersiveen,' said Deputy Cahill. 'The waterfront and boardwalk project has the potential to make a significant difference to the town, providing an enhanced public amenity while also supporting tourism, local businesses and the wider economy. 'The completion of the tender process and the achievement of Decision Gate 3 approval means we can now move forward to the delivery stage with construction expected to commence shortly.' The new amenity is a major goal of Cahersiveen Town Centre regeneration project which aims to strengthen Cahersiveen's heritage. Over €8.5m has been provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development for Cahersiveen projects, with match funding from the council bringing the total to over €10m. Works have already begun on the historic Carnegie Building, with an expected completion date of late 2027, while enhancement of the Fair Green amenity and introduction of a one-way system for greater connectivity to the town centre are still in design stage.
