The Manistee County Library will host two author talks. Local author John Wemlinger will visit on Sept. 22 to discuss his new book, and Robert Van Dellen will present his BobTalks literature series about author Kristin Hannah on Oct. 1. Named a Michigan Notable Author in 2022 for his novel "The Cut," Wemlinger expressed his gratitude for the award. "While all of my books have received various awards for their writing excellence, being named a Michigan Notable Author is the one I hold in highest esteem,' Wemlinger said, reflecting on the opportunities the award has presented him, including speaking at libraries and other organizations across the state and interacting with readers. Wemlinger will discuss his newest novel, "Finding Innocence," at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Manistee Main Library in the meeting room on the third floor. In his new book, Wemlinger reflects on his time as a company commander at Fort Eustis over 50 years ago. The book's plot is centered around sexual assault/harassment in the military. Attendees can expect some balance to counteract a heavy subject. 'I will speak in detail about the incident that inspired 'Finding Innocence.' However, I will also talk about what the military has done most recently to try and tackle the issue of sexual assault/harasment. There is some good news there that I am thrilled to share with your patrons,' Wemlinger said. On Oct 1, Van Dellen will share his presentation on contemporary author Kristin Hannah at 6 p.m. on Oct. 1 at Hardy Hall . As a former college professor of literature and college president, Van Dellen is well-versed in making presentations. He has a wide variety of topics ready to present, ranging from individual authors, to subjects like love, death, friendship and what literature teaches us. When asked what inspired this series, Van Dellen said, 'I missed talking about literature with people who appreciate it. My goal is to inform but also to create interest.' Van Dellen has two published books, with a third to be released soon. "BobTalks: About Kristin Hannah" will be held at 6 p.m. on Oct. 1 in Hardy Hall at Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts. This event is intended for adults and will have a cash bar. Both events are free and open to the public. No reservations required.
