SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two suspects were arrested for allegedly discharging a large-capacity firearm in Springfield.
The Springfield Police Department stated that at approximately 7:55 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the area of Wait Street and Langdon Street for a report of shots fired. When police arrived, they could hear gunfire near Penacook Street and saw two men running into Van Horn Park.
Upon entering the park, officers detained one suspect, identified as 22-year-old Felix Berrios of Springfield. The second suspect dropped a container of nitrous oxide and continued running, but was detained after a brief foot pursuit. He was identified as 26-year-old Joniel Cotto of Springfield.
Berrios then told officers that he had a firearm, and police removed a large-capacity firearm capable of holding 12 rounds of ammunition from his waistband. They also seized crack cocaine from Berrios during the search.
Evidence of gunfire was located on the 0-100 block of Langdon Street during the investigation.
