Wakefield Trinity confirm signing of Leeds Rhinos rookie Ned McCormack

The 21-year-old's departure was confirmed by Rhinos last night and Trinity today (Tuesday) announced his signing on a three-year contract. McCormack, a former England rugby union under-18s international, switched codes to join Rhinos in 2023. He made a try-scoring debut away to Warrington Wolves in July, 2024, but has featured only six times in the senior side, including twice this season. McCormack, who was sidelined by injury for almost year following his Leeds debut, said: 'I'm really excited and grateful to join the club and start this next chapter. I can't wait to get started and give everything for the shirt.' Trinity coach Daryl Powell hailed McCormack as 'a talented young outside-back with great footwork and speed'. He said: 'I've been tracking him since he was on loan at Halifax when we were in the Championship. I feel like he has got a big future and will be an awesome signing to continue our focus on further development of young players for the future.' Director of rugby Ste Mills added: 'Ned is a great coup for Wakefield Trinity and someone we believe will add a real edge to our backline, while also providing valuable cover across a number of positions. He is a very mature young man, both on and off the field, and we believe he has all the attributes to flourish within our environment. 'We're confident that, given the right opportunities to play first-grade rugby league, he can really develop and fulfil his potential. We believe he has the ability to become a top-end player during his time at Wakefield Trinity.' He is Trinity's second signing for 2027 from Leeds, after Cameron Smith. Trinity's squad also includes their former Rhinos teammate Jack Sinfield.
