Kristo Asafo denies attempt to exhume Kwadwo Safo Kantanka's remains

The Kristo Asafo Mission has denied reports that its leadership, accompanied by military personnel, went to the Kantanka Museum at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region to exhume the remains of its late founder, Emeritus Prof. Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka. The Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations and Projects at the Kristo Asafo Mission, Dr Kwasi Agyei Safo, dismissed reports that the presence of the church leadership and soldiers at the museum was linked to an attempt to exhume the remains of Prof. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka. 'The speculation out there that the leadership of the Church and some soldiers went there to exhume the body of Papa is a fallacy. It's a lie,' he said. He said the church visited the facility on Sunday, September 6, 2026, alongside a private security company to inspect the premises and take inventory of its properties. He said the move followed the revocation by the Interior Ministry of the licence of the church's former private security company, which had been responsible for protecting its installations. Dr Agyei Safo said the church subsequently contracted Goldman Security Limited to provide security for its properties, including the Kantanka Museum at Mpota. He explained that the private security company had visited the facility on Thursday and Saturday as part of preparations to take over security duties before accompanying church officials to the facility on Sunday. 'A couple of months ago, the Interior Ministry revoked the licence of our private security, which the Church used to protect our installations. So, the Church was naked, and we decided to contract the private security company, Goldman Security Limited, to give protection to our installations and property.' He said church officials accompanied the security team to inspect the facility and take an inventory of the church's properties to prevent disputes over missing items. 'We need to be there to make an inspection and take inventory of the entire facility, so that tomorrow, no one would come and say that they went there and something got missing.' According to Dr Agyei Safo, the situation escalated when guards at the facility denied the church and its security team access, insisting that they needed authorisation from former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, or Osebo the Zaraman. He said soldiers who arrived at the facility to de-escalate the confrontation verified the church's security contract but were also denied access. He further questioned how the church could have attempted to exhume the remains when, according to him, the key to the mausoleum where the late founder is buried is in the possession of the church leadership. 'The mausoleum key is with the Church leadership. So how could they go there to exhume the body?' Dr Agyei Safo maintained that the church's visit was strictly for security, inspection and inventory purposes and that no attempt was made to exhume the remains of the late founder.
