City cleric issues fatwa against DJ at Islamic events - The Times of India

Nagpur: Amid ongoing debate over playing loud music during festivities, a fatwa has been issued against playing DJs during Eid celebrations at dargahs and sandal processions, stating that causing inconvenience or posing a health risk to others is not permissible in Islam. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In recent years, scale and volume of DJ music have spiralled, causing noise pollution during sandal celebrations at dargahs, or julus (procession) during Eid-e-Milad. The trend had already come under criticism from all quarters of Muslim community, with members calling for measures to curb the nuisance.The fatwa has been issued by Mujtaba Sharif Khan Ashari Misbahi, Muhtamim (principal) of Al Jamiatur Razvia Darul Uloom Amjadiya Madrassa. The cleric said Islam does not permit any act that causes trouble to others or poses threat to health.Pyare Khan, chairperson of Maharashtra State Minorities Commission, welcomed the decree saying Islam does not permit any act that causes inconvenience to others.Maulana Ateequr Rahman Siddiqui, founder of Idaare Shariah at Kalamna, too welcomed the move, saying DJ music has no place in Islam. "Despite efforts to restrict such practices, younger generation is somewhat different today and does not always listen to religious scholars. Young people should follow guidance of ulema and conduct themselves according to Shariah rather than on their own wishes. When people act on their own, they can end up violating law of the land and principles of Shariah," he said.Such bans on DJs are imposed by Muslim religious bodies every year ahead of major religious celebrations. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sheikh Tayyeb Rizvi, member of Seerat Un Nabi Committee, which organises Eid-e-Milad celebrations across city, said the committee issues comprehensive guidelines to community before the event and strictly prohibits use of DJs. "No DJs were played in front of us. We also disown groups involved in bringing DJs. The committee never takes any responsibility for such nuisance," he said.The fatwa further states that Islam cannot permit any action that poses a danger to the health of others. Videos Up Next
