Person injured near Willington train tracks rescued from woods, officials say

WILLINGTON — A person was taken to the hospital Monday morning after they sustained traumatic injuries near the railroad tracks, along River Road, the fire department said. Firefighters with the Willington and Willington Hill fire departments responded to the railroad tracks adjacent to the 200 block of River Road around 11:05 a.m. for a "patient with traumatic injuries," the Willington Fire Department said in a social media post. It was not immediately clear from the post if the person was struck by a train or was injured by some other means. The Willington Fire Department said Windham Hospital paramedics, Connecticut State Police and Life Star, a helicopter ambulance service, were also dispatched to the scene. The person was in a densely wooded area and was removed by firefighters with the help of a resident's UTV, the post said. The person was then transported to a Hartford area hospital, the fire department said.
