Cheshire Police releases Paul Rudd 999 call after offending

He had, in fact, driven his car at Adrian Boakes – from Wrexham – in the village of Dodleston when he found out he had been drinking with Rudd's wife, someone he had previously had an affair with. Rudd, 58, of Mold Road, Broughton – was sentenced to 17 months suspended for 18 months on Friday, September 4. He is also disqualified from driving for two years. Having been originally charged with attempted murder, he pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving during the incident on Saturday, February 7. There was no separate penalty for inflicting grievous bodily harm. Footage published to Cheshire Police's YouTube channel has audio of Rudd reporting the incident when he drove at Mr Boakes deliberately – despite his first call to 999 – but the court heard that he applied the brakes at around 10mph. Rudd was given a suspended sentence at Chester Crown Court by Judge Steven Everett because of his 'genuine remorse'. Cheshire Police said that examination of Rudd's phone showed he had sent messages saying, 'If he gets out of the taxi, I am going to run the **** over.' Mr Boakes was left with severe cuts and bruising as a result of the incident. In interview, Rudd claimed the victim had been intoxicated and walked into the path of his vehicle. He stated he did not remember sending the text messages threatening to run him over. Detective Constable Lorna Postlethwaite said: 'Rudd let his anger get the better of him and his actions could seriously have put the victim's life at risk. 'There is never any excuse for using a vehicle in this way. 'I hope the conclusion of this case will give the victim some closure over the incident.'
