The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns will open the 2028 season at the TCU Horned Frogs and have also added a home contest against the McNeese Cowboys that season, FBSchedules.com has learned. Louisiana was previously scheduled to face TCU on September 16, 2028 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas, which was announced in December. According to the official athletics website of the Ragin' Cajuns, the two schools will now meet three weeks earlier on August 26, 2028. The Horned Frogs will pay the Ragin' Cajuns a $1 million guarantee for the contest, according to a copy of the original contract obtained from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette via a state public records request. The date adjustment is a result of the NCAA's June decision to adopt a uniform 14‑week regular season beginning in 2027. Under the new model, FBS programs may begin most seasons during what is currently known as Week Zero—the weekend before Labor Day—which will become the standard Week 1. The 2028 Louisiana–TCU matchup will mark just the second meeting between the two programs. Their first came in the 2024 Isleta New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, N.M., where the Horned Frogs defeated the Ragin' Cajuns, 34–3. Louisiana has also added a home game against McNeese of the Southland Conference, set for September 2, 2028, at Cajun Field at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium in Lafayette, La. Per the contract, the Ragin' Cajuns will pay the Cowboys a $325,000 guarantee for the contest. The Cajuns and Cowboys have met 39 times in a series that began in 1951 in Lake Charles, La. Louisiana has won three straight, though McNeese maintains a 20‑17‑2 edge overall. Separately, McNeese has adjusted the date of its previously announced 2027 home game against Louisiana Christian. Originally scheduled for September 4, the matchup has been moved one week earlier to August 28, according to an amendment to the contract obtained from McNeese State University. FOOTBALL SCHEDULES
