Florida sheriff's office arrests 59 sex offenders in joint operation with US Marshals

A two-month crackdown on registered sex offenders and predators in one Florida city led to 59 arrests after authorities conducted more than 500 compliance checks, according to the local sheriff's office. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said its Offender Tracking Unit teamed up with the U.S. Marshals Service for "Operation Riverwatch," which ran across Jacksonville from June 15 through Aug. 14. Detectives spent more than 230 hours conducting 535 checks of registered offenders and predators, the sheriff's office said. The checks led to the arrests of 59 men and women, ranging in age from 21 to 76, who authorities said violated rules they were required to follow after being released from prison or jail. "These offenders found themselves back behind bars for breaking the rules," the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post. Florida law requires registered sexual offenders and predators to follow certain registration and reporting requirements. Violations can result in felony charges and additional registration requirements, depending on the offense, the sheriff's office said. The sheriff's office did not say in its post which requirements each of the 59 people allegedly violated. Fox News Digital has reached out to the sheriff's office for more information.
