SALT LAKE CITY — The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on Sunday afternoon before Long Beach State mounted a three-set comeback to defeat Wyoming in five sets (25-27, 12-25, 25-19, 25-13, 15-10) to close out the Utah Classic.
Wyoming (3-2) captured a tight opening set by fending off a set point at 25-24 and stringing together three straight points to win 27-25. The Cowgirls dominated the second frame, using a 6-0 surge and a game-closing 5-0 run to take a commanding two-set lead. However, Long Beach State controlled the final three frames to complete the comeback.
The Beach out-hit Wyoming .139 to .106 and held a major edge at the net with 17 total blocks to the Cowgirls' eight. While both squads tallied six service aces, 14 serving errors proved costly for the Cowgirls.

Next Up
Wyoming opens its home slate next week by hosting the UniWyo Invite inside the UniWyo Sports Complex. The tournament begins Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. The Cowgirls will face South Dakota on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by the Border War against Colorado State on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
