Authorities have increased traffic monitoring on major roads in Accra. This is due to ongoing drainage construction under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project. The construction is affecting vehicular movement. Drone footage from today's monitoring exercise is being analyzed. This will help authorities understand traffic conditions better and identify congested areas. The monitoring aims to assist traffic management authorities. They want to assess the impact of road closures and construction activities. The goal is to find ways to ease congestion. Overall, the traffic situation remains manageable. However, congestion has started to build up on some major routes. This is especially true during the evening peak period when workers return home. Affected areas include Graphic Road from Accra Central, Obetsebi Lamptey to Mortuary Road, and the route from Obetsebi Lamptey towards Circle. Increased traffic mainly results from commuters heading home after work. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation using drone surveillance. This helps assess traffic flow and informs decisions on managing it. Some commuters traveling towards Kasoa have chosen to walk parts of their journey. They do this to avoid getting stuck in increasing congestion.
Authorities plan to use information gathered from this exercise for possible interventions. These interventions aim to improve traffic flow while GARID drainage works continue. Comments:
