Tehachapi High cross country opened the 2026 season Saturday by competing in the Jim White McFarland USA Invitational. Individual highlights are as follows: Jessica Cookson ran her 3-mile race in 19:06m which placed her 11th out of 88 competitors. Her time was the second fastest Tehachapi High girls 3-mile since 2000. Alexis Munoz, Summer Rohm, Adelina Sanchez-Welker and Morgan Mumby all also ran personal bests to score the Lady Warriors fourth overall in team scoring. On the varsity boys side, Luke Korhonen led the way with a personal best of 17:12. Matthew Von Rueden, Zac Teare, David Cook, Gavin Knowlton and Kai Napier rounded out the varsity boys team that saw six out of seven runners set new personal bests. At the JV level, Madison White and Emelia Flynn both finished top 10 in the two-mile race. Their efforts along with Haleigh Martin, Charity Wuth, Kathryn Crookston, Anelyse Billings and Ema Litrell contributed to the JV girls finishing second overall in team scoring. Austin Kelley and Theo Swihart led the way for the JV boys that finished fifth overall in team scoring. Also contributing to that effort was James Mangelsdorf, Jayden Bressler, Talon Napier, Rowan Laughlin, Hayden Kent and Noah Cardenas. Tehachapi High cross country will continue its season Friday, Sept. 11 at the Sanger XC Invitational in Fresno. Ethan Korhonen is head coach of the Warriors team.
